August 16, 2011 - Port Jefferson, NY to Jamestown, RI

OK, we ended up in Jamestown, RI, which was not the plan. We got up early to hit the breakwater at Port Jeff at 8:00 am with intentions to head to Greenport and meet Carole Power, but that was not to be. After banging into 5-7' seas heading toward Greenport, we decided to head directly into the waves at a slower speed and try to get to the Ct. Shore on the north side of the sound to get cover from the wind. This worked out after two hours of slogging across the Sound at its widest point and we headed along the shore toward home.

A quick visit to Noank, CT

The crew had has enough of the rock and roll and the surge of rollers was getting pretty impressive when she declared enough was enough and we decided Jamestown, RI looked like a good destination. It would leave us a short three hours from home and if we left early tomorrow morning perhaps could avoid rough seas into the Cape.
We took a mooring at the Conanicut Yacht Club, and walked through Jamestown, a cute little town across from Newport, RI. with launch service.
