August 7, 2011 - Montreal, Quebec to Chambly, Quebec

We left Old Port, Montreal at 8:00 am and immediately turned down stream on the St Lawrence River with about a 6 knot push, rather than struggling against it like when we arrived. The favorable current continues until we get to Sorel, 44 miles away. When we make the turn into the Richelieu River, for the first time we are headed south toward home. The trip has been "challenging" and "interesting", but we're both feeling the need to be headed home and to return to US waters.

Catherdral along the St Lawrence River
The trip east out of Montreal proves to be more beautiful than we had expected and the Richelieu to the town of Chambly was lined with small towns, amazing cathedrals, and lots of beautiful homes. Few showers along the way but the sun came out as we approached Chambly and we roasted once again.

The town of Chambly is at the start of the Chambly canal and we will start with three flight lock first thing followed by five more within a mile and a half, nice way to wake up...

After the first eight, there is one more and then we go onto Lake Champlain, and head for Treadwell Marina in Plattsburgh. Treadwell has a loaner car, pool, laundry facilities, and protected docks, who could ask for more?
